HIGH SCHOOL
At KCS, we know that every student has their own gifts and talents. That's why KCS offers a comprehensive and varied program offering for its students. To best address BC's new curriculum direction, our students are given the opportunity to nurture academic knowledge in a variety of ways, as well as learning how a Christian worldview impacts each subject and, consequently, our world.
We Learn through Curiosity
We strive to create lifelong learners, not just classroom stars. To do that well, students must be given the opportunity to explore and be curious, both about themselves and also about the world around them. Our focus on project-based learning and our inquiry facilitated instruction gives students the skills they need to think critically, work collaboratively, and to creatively solve problems. This educational direction is integrated in our varied course offerings, such as biblical and theological exploration courses (Alpha, Leadership Education And Discipleship (LEAD), Chapel), more traditional academic offerings (English, Socials, Computer Programming, Life Sciences, etc.), and Industrial Arts offering (Woodworking, Metalwork, Robotics). For a complete list of courses offered this past year at KCS, see the bulleted list.
We Grow in Character
One of the best things that can be done for a child is to help them to learn about who they are and what their purpose is in God's creation. To that end, our students participate in many service opportunities, such as going on various mission and humanitarian trips both locally (like to the Kamloops Food Bank, The Mustard Seed, and local senior centers, among others) as well as to other cultures (for example: Guatemala and Peru). But service is just one component of character, which is why we also buddy our older and younger students together (Kindergarten / Grade 12 buddies); have cross-graded offerings (Worship 10-12); and look to our senior students to showcase their learning with graduation Capstone or cumulative projects and presentations (as taught in our Career Life and Career Education courses). We want our students to not only be the best academic students they can be, but also fulfill the individual calling on their life.
We Practice Courage
Our world needs leaders, and that leadership often starts at school. Students at KCS are given opportunities to build those leadership skills by participating in our weekly Chapel services in the form of musical teams (Chapel), performing on stage in our fine arts courses, (such as Improv, Musical Theatre / Drama, Senior Music offerings), and showcasing their artistic abilities in our senior art courses. The courage to learn about other languages and cultures is also a big part of our school as we house International students from around the globe (with ESL courses for those students) and integrate them into our mainstream courses. Our very active Student Council also plans and runs various fundraisers and fun days throughout the year.
